Ford continues to ignore valid climate science

Does Premier Doug Ford not believe UN climate science?

The recent UN IPCC report says political inaction is responsible for the desperate state of the world’s carbon emissions, and Premier Ford is a prime example.

To begin, Ford fought and lost the battle against the federal imposition of the price on carbon. By helping to finance new electricity gas plants instead of green technology, he is perpetrating the kind of weather that B.C. endured last year and which is causing wildfires in Ontario.

Moreover, breathing fossilfuel exhaust is a major cause of lung disease including childhood asthma. Ford is encouraging expansion of natural gas into rural areas at over $26,000 per home connection.

This is ridiculous when similar home-heating costs can be obtained by using an airsource heat pump powered by clean electricity.

The subsidy to Enbridge gas will require 8,700 connections for homes and businesses and cost $234 million, paid for mostly by a surcharge on those already connected to natural gas. Instead, Ford should use part of the subsidy to assist homeowners to install the airsource heat pump, and part to increase green electricity production needed for the additional load.
