Staff responded to the challenge

Thanks to the Examiner for your article: GreenUp: The roles we play in the climate story.

It tells the story of the ways in which our library is contributing to the story of a sustainable future.

It is a clear and refreshing story, expressing the truth that local people and organizations can make a positive difference in this community.

It is also an example of the importance of local papers in providing stories connecting what’s happening in the world to what’s happening close to home.

I was particularly taken by the way in which the Peterborough

Public Library responded to their public engagement plan with enthusiasm.

The article says that while the library received many responses to the engagement plan, one of the most frequent was that they focus on sustainability and climate change.

Staff at the library responded to the challenge.

The list of their accomplishments is impressive, including: a summer reading challenge honouring water, a native plant and pollinator garden in the library commons, an online plant guide to the species in the garden, a community seed exchange, a library book bike powered by the pedal, a fully electric library van, and an active green team. Amazing.

How lucky we are in Peterborough to have people and organizations that bring imagination, energy, and care to building a more welcoming, vibrant, and sustainable community. Caroline Tennent, Peterborough
