Vehicle, foot chase leads to arrest
A 34-year-old Scarborough man is facing numerous charges after a city police chase overnight. At about 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday, an officer on general patrol tried to make a traffic stop on Aylmer Street. The male driver refused to stop and travelled at a high rate of speed, disregarding a red light and stop sign before hitting a tree near Parkhill Road, police said. The driver then tried to flee on foot but was arrested with the help of OPP officers who were in the area. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of some crack cocaine, police said. The driver was also prohibited from driving Canada-wide, police said. Christopher DaCosta was charged with possession of cocaine for trafficking, driving while prohibited, flight from police, dangerous driving and failing to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a court appearance later on Wednesday.
