Junior Tigers sweep doubleheader

The Peterborough Junior Tigers swept a doubleheader from the Pickering Red Sox at Riverside Park on Saturday night. In Game 1, the Tigers outlasted the Red Sox 12-7. The Tigers were led by Tim Moloney who went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and Justin Groves who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Other hits went to Blake Cherwaty, Brock Newell, Connor Cavanagh and Ethan Miele. Cherwaty and Moloney led the way with three runs each with two to Jake Lockyer (2), Adam Gilmoure and singles to Groves and Miele. Ryan Brodie picked up the complete game win on six hits, six walks and six strikeouts. In Game 2, Moloney struck out five, walked two and gave up five hits in a complete game 5-4 victory. Groves got the winning run

stealing home with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the final inning. Newell had two hits with singles by Cavanagh, Young and Lockyer. The Tigers capitalized on seven walks with six Tigers getting walks. Runs were scored by Groves with two Cherwaty, Newell and Young. The Tigers are 4-2 in the East Division of the Greater Toronto Junior Baseball League.
