1,070 teddy bears rain down at Petes game

Popular event was cancelled last year

Teddy bears rained on the Memorial Centre ice Thursday night after Jack Carroll scored on the Kingston Frontenacs in the second period of their Teddy Bear Toss night.

An estimated 1,070 teddy bears were collected.

The flying teddy bears, along with socks and toys, will be donated to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal for its annual Christmas assistance program for families in need.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Petes were unable to hold the Teddy Bear Toss last season.

As the pandemic continues, the annual Pure Country 105/Move 99.7 Christmas Toy Drive has been streamlined to two drop-off locations — the centre court at Lansdowne Place mall and the Salvation Army office at 219 Simcoe St.

The holiday toy drive was launched on Nov. 12.

Families in need can book appointments for Christmas assistance up to Dec. 17 by calling 705-742-4391.

The Kinsmen Club of Peterborough donated $10,000 on Thursday to the Christmas program. The club has supported the drive for 20 years.
