$491,000 for gender equality

The federal government is providing $491,000 in funding for Trent University’s First Peoples House of Learning for a new project to advance gender equality. The funding was announced Friday by Women, Gender Equality and Youth Minister Marci Ien along with funding for various other Indigenous equality programs across Canada. The First Peoples House of Learning plans to create an Indigenous women-led interactive and experiential training model to address unconscious bias that makes Indigenous women more vulnerable to gender-based violence, according to a ministry release. “Trent University is proud to be taking an active role in ensuring Canada is a safe and supportive place for all women,” Trent president Leo Groarke stated in the release. “With the support of Women and Gender Equality Canada, our new training program will share diverse perspectives and empower Indigenous women and girls across Canada.”
