Rage go 3-0 to open season

With a new sponsor, the defending Ontario senior-C la- crosse champions kicked off their 2022 season in winning fashion on the weekend. The Lakefield Kawar- tha Outdoor Decor Rage went 3-0, besting London, Wellington and Huntsville in St. Catharines. Ka- wartha Outdoor Decor has come on as title sponsor for the Rage, ac- cording to team owner Derrick Crough. “Owner Jeff Drimmie grew up in Peterborough, as did his father, Jack Drimmie, who played lacrosse in the 1950s and 1960s in Peterborough. Jeff was happy to step up and sponsor the SSL Onta- rio 2021 Nobile Cup champions,” Crough said. Lakefield, which won the championship in 2021, had spots to fill with players moving on to senior-B, including sniper Adam Churchill, Aaron Woods and Caleb Wiles as well as Matt Smith on the defensive side. The goaltending duo has stayed the same. Goaltend- ing is a huge part of winning games, Crough said, and Ryan Masters and Marco Celic kept the door closed all weekend. Goals were scored by Brandon Johnson, Mike Drumm, Darian Jacobs, Steve Nichols, Nick Andreoli, Alex Decosta, Mikael Chullen, Mike Vertolli and Charlie Girdle. The Rage host their home tournament on the June 25th weekend at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre. The Senior Se- ries Lacrosse League added two new teams this year, Cambridge and Wellington, bringing the league total to nine. They include the Rage, Cambridge Khaos, the London TimberKings, Six Nations Toma- hawks, Huntsville Hawks, Welling- ton Aces, Toronto Lightning, North Bay Titans and Fort Erie Tigers.
