Free activities mark month

June is Recreation and Parks Month in Peterborough with a se- ries of free activities. On Friday, there is a P.A. Day Fun Swim from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Sport and Wellness Centre on Brealey Drive, followed by a client appreciation day for members there Monday. On June 17, Power Yoga in the Park is at Rogers Cove from 9 to 10 a.m. A Father’s Day Fun Swim is slated for June 18 at the Wellness Centre from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. On June 20, the Downtown Youth Space hosts a Mini Olympics in Confederation Square from 4 to 5 p.m. On June 23, a Zumba Dance Party is at Quaker Foods City Square 5 to 7 p.m. A Let’s Bike Event in partnership with Peterborough GreenUp goes June 29 at Quaker Foods City Square 2 to 5 p.m. The celebration wraps up July 1 with Canada Day celebrations starting at 10 a.m. and pre-parade activities in Confederation Square, followed by the Canada Day Parade at noon along George Street from City Hall to Morrow Park. The city’s seven splash pads open for the season 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The public beaches at Beavermead Park, 2011 Ashburnham Dr., and Rogers Cove, 131 Maria St., open for the season July 1 with trained lifeguards 11a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The city’s three community wading pools also open July 1, operating from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
